You may well know us as Learning Centres, but we provide more than just physical space and the resources that fill them. That's why we've changed our name to Independent Learning Service. The team's primary aim is to support students learning on their own, outside the classroom and helping them develop the skills needed to carry on doing that throughout their careers.
We will still have first rate Learning Centres at the heart of what we do, but we also support learning wherever it takes place, be that on Moodle, other digital platforms, at home, wherever.
One of the keys ways we will achieve this is by supporting staff to get the most from the different ways their student's can learn, including the use of digital learning. We will still be buying books, putting them on shelves and stamping them when someone wants to take them out. We will still provide the desks and PCs for students to work at, so they can get their research and assignments completed. We will still do all that by working closely with teaching teams to make sure that those aspects of our service are right for all our students.
We just wanted to remind everyone that we're about more than that. We're about study and research skills for students. We're about learning how to use Moodle and different platforms such as Edmodo. We're about supporting staff in getting the best out of all of these opportunities.
To sum it up, we're about making sure everyone in the college has the resources and ability to learn wherever they want, whenever they want.
